Priscilla Bovee

Head of School

Since 1975

The beacon of New World Montessori, Ms. Bovee encompasses the purest definition of Montessori education. As the oldest of six children, and the only girl, Priscilla is used to being responsible for children. When she was first introduced to Montessori education, she had an immediate connection to the values and beliefs. Maria Montessori’s love and respect for children inspired Priscilla to become a teacher and dedicate her life to furthering the Montessori vision of education for a more peaceful world.

Priscilla graduated from Marquette University, the Montessori Institute of Milwaukee, and the Washington Montessori Institute. She has AMI diplomas in both primary and elementary Montessori.

To say that she is a good teacher is a vast understatement. Ms. Bovee has a way of captivating children and adults alike. She shares her experience, knowledge, and love for learning with all the families at New World. She takes something unfamiliar to students and with encouragement and patience, she helps them see past the unfamiliar and seek understanding in a new way.

Ms. Bovee greets students in the morning and witnesses the spirit of enthusiasm and curiosity that they bring with them. She joins classrooms daily and loves to be part of each classroom’s little society as the students concentrate on their work and encourage each other.

At New World, children of different ages, cultures, and religions work and play together peacefully. Priscilla’s goal is that the children of New World will grow up to be compassionate, open-minded, and principled caretakers of their world and the wise and thoughtful leaders of the future.

What are you happiest doing when you are not teaching?

I love being with friends and family, reading, enjoying the arts, and being in nature.

Tell us about the New World alumni.

Our alumni are amazing people As a group, they have excelled academically and attended all the great universities. But, more importantly, they have followed their passions with conviction and confidence. I think the common denominator is what Maria Montessori called "being friendly with error." Montessori children see mistakes as learning opportunities. They persevere and find a better way. I remember watching so many children explore their interests, and it's always intriguing to see what they end up doing. A little girl who loved math ended up working for Google. A boy who had a passion for science became a physician. Whether they are artists or entrepreneurs or teachers, they all find great meaning in their work, and they are people of great character.

My favorite part of the school day is…

Meeting new families and sharing my enthusiasm for our school. I love talking about the brilliance of Maria Montessori’s ideas and the lifelong benefits of a Montessori education.

I love providing our children with a “home away from home,” where they can flourish as individuals and develop into lifelong learners.”

We understand the importance of nurturing a child’s natural ability to care for others, help those in need, and learn through first-hand adventures. Our students know the impact they can have locally and globally.

The Montessori approach respects the needs of each child, allowing them to develop at their own pace. This increases confidence and creates opportunities for rich exploration at every stage of learning.
