What it looks like for your child:
Lessons when your child is ready. Guides teach one-on-one and in small groups, so your child moves ahead when ready and gets more time when needed.
Learning with their hands. Ideas are understood by touching, exploring, and doing. Children build four-digit quantities with golden beads, trace letters in sand, and study geography through the use of puzzles.
Time to go deep. Long, uninterrupted work periods let a child follow an interest all the way through, without a bell cutting it short.
A three-year community. In mixed-age classrooms, younger children learn from older ones, older children lead, and the same guide knows your child well for years.
Real independence. Children prepare food, care for their classroom, and learn to work through disagreements with grace and courtesy.
A calm, low-tech day. Peaceful classrooms, time in nature, art, and culture, in a small school where every family is known.

COME SEE IT FOR YOURSELF
Every family who is interested in learning more about Montessori and our program is encouraged to receive a tour of our school. During your 30-45 minute visit, you will have the opportunity to experience our joyful learning community tucked away in a lush, home-like setting.
SCHOOL TOUR
Classroom observations give adults the opportunity to see Montessori in action. During a 15-30 minute observation, you will be invited to sit in one of our classrooms while the children carry out their work. What you might see during your time: teachers working one-on-one with children, children working independently and with peers on self-selected work, and unique Montessori lessons related to self-care, practical skills, and academic concepts.

The Montessori Method

Dr. Maria Montessori is the brilliant woman behind the globally embraced Montessori Method. A physician and scientist, she spent decades observing how children actually learn, then built an education around what she saw. More than a century later, her approach is thriving in classrooms around the world.
Her great insight was that children are naturally driven to learn. Given meaningful work, real choices, and an adult who trusts them, they don’t need rewards or pressure. They work hard because they want to.
That is why a Montessori classroom looks different. Everything in it is there on purpose: beautiful, child-sized, and within reach. The materials are self-correcting, so children can spot their own mistakes and try again without waiting to be marked right or wrong. They move freely, choose their work, and progress by readiness, not by grade level or age. Each success builds a child who feels both competent and confident.
At the heart of it all is respect for the child. Our guides speak calmly, model what Dr. Montessori called “grace and courtesy,” and complete extensive Montessori training and classroom apprenticeship before leading a classroom. New World has been run by Montessori-trained educators since our founding in 1975. Alongside strong academics, children build the focus, responsibility, and social awareness they will carry everywhere. At New World, children are prepared for life, not just for tests.
